Role: Interiors, Construction
For the 30th anniversary of Hotel Saradharam situated right in the heart of Chidambaram temple town, a phased renovation was proposed owing to peak business hours and the inability to have periods of no operation. The lobby space was given an entire makeover with a contemporary interior with traditional elements to retain the ethnic feel of the space. A grand entrance was achieved by designing the reception area using a monolithic granite block suspended on either side of an existing column. A Business lounge seating was created at a lower level with a backdrop of natural light and a water cascade. The lighting design of the ceiling was primarily addressed and given the necessary contemporary makeover. Anu-Pallavi, a multicuisine restaurant was designed as a traditional Tanjore ambience focussing on art forms like Bharathanatyam and other handicrafts. The focal element of the design is the concave Rangoli-like pattern on the ceiling which drops down towards the centre. Handmade paintings of different forms of the dance adorn the walls. A patterned partition is incorporated for a visual privacy for diners. The partition is carefully detailed with textures and materials from reused Silk Sarees. The furniture and doors were refurbished and reused on site.
