Built up area: 250 sq.ft | Year: 2013 Role: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction

In memory of the grandparents of the architects of AIS, a memorial has been designed at their birthplace near Karaikal. The ancestral home was carefully disassembled, preserving most of the materials including main door, bricks and roof tiles. The design idea is one of complete sustainability – reusing old bricks, doors and roof tiles taken from ancestral home. In order to reduce the temperature inside the memorial, filler slab technology was used. The pyramid-shaped roof allows for use of the memorial for yoga and meditation classes. The local community uses the memorial for yoga classes and free distribution of food as the memorial is conveniently located opposite an open air cultural center and near the village temple.
